One of the most expected movies of the year, our Ilayathalapathy Vijay s VETTAIKARAN released on 18th Dec. Racy entertainers and Ilayathalapathy Vijay are inseparable. Much like Rajinikanth, Vijay’s films also are hero-centric and have all the ingredients to please the masses from 6-60 years. Fiery action sequences, colourful songs, romances with one of the most beautiful heroines in town and not to forget the fans loving punch lines.
With all these getting appropriate the film witnessed a thunder opening all over with fans thronging the theatre. From the theatre owners view, the reservation which started 4 days before the release is said to be incomparable to anyone in Tamil cinema all shows for almost a week has been booked. The film has been relased with more than 800 prints all over.
The movie has said to be collected more than 13 crores in the opening day which is said to be record and the biggest ever opening collection ever in tamil cinema. All theatre oweners and distributors are very happy the way movie has comeout and its been a treat for all Vijay fans who were waiting for the movie to be released. The movie got released in more than 45 centres in Chennai alone.
The story line is simple . ‘Police’ Ravi (Vijay) is a village simpleton and a good samaritan who has a sneaking admiration for men in uniform, mainly the upright and honest cop Devaraj (Sri Hari). Soon Ravi a cool guy comes to Chennai to study and drives auto to make a living but soon gets into a bloody fight with Chella (Ravishankar) a guy who is part of a land mafia and a notorious womaniser. Chella is beaten to pulp and his dad Vedanayagam (Salim Ghouse) takes over, and cat and mouse game follows. The do gooder turns into a super hero as the hunt begins.Added attractions are Susheela (Anushka) a girl whom Ravi meets in a train who later joins him at regular intervals for the song ‘n’ dance routine. A comic police officer Kattabomman (Sayaji Shinde) , and a true friend of the hero ( Sathyan)who is killed by the villains are the other clichéd characters.
The film works due to Vijay, his charishma, and immense screen presence. He takes of each and every scene and plays to the gallery with abandon and underlines his over-the-top character with an infectious sense of fun.
Another major plus for the movie are the five peppy songs tuned by Vijay Antony which is choreographed well. The introductory song Naan Adichal has lot of energy in it and the cute bit with Vijay’s son Sanjay dancing with him rocks. And ofcourse Puli Urumudu song makes the fans to get bumped off their seats and start whistling. The action scenes by Kanal Kannan are superbly choreographed. Gopinath’s camera is slick and editing is fast paced and Babu Sivan , the director scores off well for his first movie.
Produced by AVM Balasubramaniam and B Gurunath and presented by Sun Pictures, 'Vettaikkaran' is an out and out action movie which would churn to be a great comeback movie for Vijay and is a complete entertainer which all kinds of audiences and espcially Vijay fans would enjoy.
